John Jaques II won a place in sporting history and a Gold Medal for introducing Croquet and Jaques croquet mallets into England at the Great Exhibition in 1851. His croquet mallet and set display there attracted such wide attention that the wonderful new game of croquet with Jaques beautiful croquet mallets and sets quickly became the vogue, not only in Britain but across Europe and throughout the British Empire. Jaques Croquet mallets and Croquet sets, together with there croquet equipment became especially popular in India, reportedly played by The Viceroy himself with a solid ivory Jaques Croquet mallet, made by Jaques in the early 20th century as part of their finest Croquet set.
In the 1950’s John Solomon started playing Croquet while still at school. Within a short time he had become the World’s best croquet player. He became world Croquet champion for several decades until he was well into his fifties and continued playing the game socially well into retirement with a beautiful Jaques Croquet Mallet.
