How Many Pieces does each player have in backgammon?

Each player has fifteen backgammon pieces.

The board itself has two main sections, divided in the middles of the backgammon board by a  bar.

Each triangle on the board is called a point, and it represents a place on which a backgammon piece can rest.

The Backgammon points are like the spaces in other games such as chess.  Since Pieces move both on the near points and on the far points on each side of the bar, the board is actually divided into quarters.
