Pub Games
Step Quoits is a an indoor version of the larger outdoor game of Quoits which can be traced back to 1388 in England although there is evidence, however, that similar versions of the game were played in ancient Greece and Rome. Edward III banned the game in England during the 1360's as he believed it to be foolish, but the game was revived and brought indoors into the pubs of Northern England and Wales during the early 19th Century.
The game uses rubber rings that are colored black and white on opposite sides and a board consisting of two indented concentric rings and a stake in the centre. The aim of the game is to throw the Quoits so that they land on the board and points are gained depending on which section of the board they land in. Any Quoits that land black side up, however, do not score.
