Jaques Happy Family John Jaques II invented the traditional and ever-popular card game of Happy Families during the early 19th Century. The game consists of a set of picture cards featuring illustrations of fictional families of four (based on occupation types). The game's original and best-known cards were illustrated by Sir John Tenniel; also known for his work as the chief cartoonist of Punch and providing the original illustrations shown in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.

The object of the game is to collect whole families by asking opponents whether they have a particular card. If they don't have it, it is their turn to ask. If they do, they have to pass it to the first player, who can ask again. Play continues until a player matches all of his or her cards into family groups.

Jaques' Happy Families feature the same wonderful character illustrations as the original cards introduced by John Jaques II over 150 years ago. The cards are offered either individually or beautifully presented in a mahogany box along with another family card game favorite, Snap.
