Dominoes : Games and sets

Although the exact origins of Dominoes game sets are unknown it is believed the game of dominoes and dominoes game set tiles evolved from a game called Alquerque played in ancient Egypt as early as 600 B.C and were normally ivory dominoes made from ivory.
Dominoes are the small tiles traditionally carved from bone or ivory and featuring small round pips of inset ivory that collectively make up a domino set. These beautiful games sets make great antique sets for playing dominoes.

The oldest known single dominoes and part of a historic and valuable antique dominoes sets date back to c.1120 A.D. in China. It is thought that dominoes were introduced to the China from India before that. It wasn't until the 18th Century, however, that dominoes appeared in Europe. jaques feature Dominoes in there very first catalogue from around 1800 and it is very possible that they may have been the first dominoes sets in the UK. Over time, the game of dominoes was adapted into the form that we know today.
Standard domino sets today include 28 dominoes pieces or dominoes tiles, each of which is consists of a line dividing the dominoe into two squares and a number of spots (or 'pips') in each square end. A Standard domino from a standerd dominoes set have ends ranging from zero to six spots. Dominoes are rather generic gaming devices, like playing cards.
