Giant Pick up sticks: Great garden and backyard game
Evidence suggests the game of Pick up Sticks originates from India and was featured in the Buddha games list, which dates back to the time of Gautama Buddha (c. 563-483 BCE). Since this time the game, or variations of it have featured in most cultures on virtually every continent making it one of the most popular games of all time. Jaques have been manufacturing their own version of pick-up-sticks in England for more than 100 years.
To start a game all but one of the sticks are held with one hand above a flat surface and are then dropped into a pile. Players then take it in turn to try and remove sticks from the pile without disturbing any of the others. This can be done by lifting, pressing down on the tapered end of a stick, or flicking it out with the one remaining stick (known as the helper stick). If any of the sticks other than the one that a player is attempting to remove moves the turn ends. Each stick removed is worth a point and the player with the most points at the end of a game (once all the sticks are removed) is the winner.
